Weather phenomena lie in the troposphere. Weather refers, generally, to day-to-day temperature and precipitation activity, whereas climate is the term for the average atmospheric conditions over longer periods of time. When used without qualification, "weather" is understood to be the weather of Earth. Weather occurs due to density (temperature and moisture) differences between one place and another. These differences can occur due to the sun angle at any particular spot, which varies by latitude from the tropics. The strong temperature contrast between polar and tropical air gives rise to the jet stream. Weather systems in the mid-latitudes, such as extratropical cyclones, are caused by instabilities of the jet stream flow. Because the Earth's axis is tilted relative to its orbital plane, sunlight is incident at different angles at different times of the year. On Earth's surface, temperatures usually range ±40 °C (100 °F to −40 °F) annually. Over thousands of years, changes in Earth's orbit affect the amount and distribution of solar energy received by the Earth and influence long-term climate Surface temperature differences in turn cause pressure differences. Higher altitudes are cooler than lower altitudes due to differences in compressional heating. Weather forecasting is the application of science and technology to predict the state of the atmosphere for a future time and a given location. The atmosphere is a chaotic system, so small changes to one part of the system can grow to have large effects on the system as a whole. Human attempts to control the weather have occurred throughout human history, and there is evidence that human activity such as agriculture and industry has inadvertently modified weather patterns. Studying how the weather works on other planets has been helpful in understanding how weather works on Earth. A famous landmark in the Solar System, Jupiter's Great Red Spot, is an anticyclonic storm known to have existed for at least 300 years. However, weather is not limited to planetary bodies. A star's corona is constantly being lost to space, creating what is essentially a very thin atmosphere throughout the Solar System. The movement of mass ejected from the Sun is known as the solar wind. Q. We are relocating to Dallas texas, and are wondering what the weather is like all year long. Also, if somebody could help us with any details or inside information we need to know about living in Lewisville Texas we would appreciate it? We heard that you can pick certain energy companies. Is that true? How soon do we need to transfer our Michigan license plates and licenses to Texas licenses? Asked by SarahMassage - Sun May 17 21:16:54 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. Welcome to Dallas. Hope you like it here. OK.. things you really should know. - Lewisville is OK. Good location, near major highways. It has good and less desirable parts of town. - Lewisville Schools are OK. Not rated as high as nearby Coppell or Flower Mound. - Do not go to Lewisville Hospital. They are completely incompetent. Baylor and Presbyterian Hospitals are the best general hospitals in DFW. - Texas electricity is de-regulated. Think rip-off. I generally stick with the larger companies: Reliant, TXU, Direct Energy and sign a contract for the lowest rate. TXU is raising rates. Reliant just dropped their's. - For nearby entertainment, I would suggest reading www.dallasnews.com and www.guidelive.com. The celebrations are fantastic, in Disney they have Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Celebration, in universal studios and island of adventure, they have The grinchmas, located in islands of adventure that's based on the grinch that stole christmas, the hotels are adorned beautifully with Christmas trees and they (at least the ones in universal) have events that take place around the christmas tree including festive music. For new years there are tons of fireworks and parties all night in downtown disney and city walk. the weather can differ but usually its very cold, i mean for florida that is. it ranges between 50-70 degrees fareheit. Q. I know 95% of the time they are wrong about the weather, but how would you be able to predict what the weather is going to be like? Asked by Samm Stellar. - Sat Dec 27 14:01:24 2008 - - 8 Answers - 0 Comments A. They use satellites to see the the way the fonts and wind are moving and from that they use their knowledge of what happen when different cloud masses or fronts meet and form a prediction. They are usually wrong because if you live in a winding place the wind can change the direction of the fronts which can also change the temp which changes the temperature.
