A mountain is a large landform that stretches above the surrounding land in a limited area usually in the form of a peak. A mountain is generally steeper than a hill. The adjective montane is used to describe mountainous areas and things associated with them. The study of mountains is called Orography. Exogeology deals with planetary mountains, which in that branch of science are usually called montes (singular—mons). The highest mountain on Earth based from sea level is Mount Everest (8,848 m (29,029 ft)) in the Himalayas of Asia. The highest known mountain in the Solar System is Olympus Mons on the planet Mars at 21,171 m (69,459 ft). Mountains and mountain ranges on Earth are typically formed by the movement and/or interaction of lithospheric plates. From Wikipedia under the

From Google Video Search: "mountains" What is the best way to explore the Blue Mountains? Q. I have 2 days to explore the Blue Mountains, and want to make the most of my time! I have been looking at tours as I will be travelling alone, and am quite keen on going to Featherdale, and I would also like to do some walking in the area, as I am a keen hiker. However, I think it would be more sensible, as a young, single, female traveller, to go with a group. Does anyone have any tips or suggestions? Asked by Mithriltears - Fri Apr 15 07:28:07 2011 - Sydney - 2 Answers - Comments A. Yeah- Sydney Wilderness Tours have been around since 1995 and are a pretty professional and friendly bunch. A safe group to tour with, their drivers are very knowledgeable. At the moment they are doing a "Grand Circle Tour" which avoids the roadworks and traffic problems. All major locations are visited, including the scenic railway, heritage centre, three sisters, wild roos aplenty and much more. Answered by Mark G - Fri Apr 15 13:14:10 2011 How to prevent decompression sickness when going from the mountains to sea level?
Q. I go to school up in the mountains, it seems whenever I go back home to sea level I am sick for days. I did some research and i have all of the symptoms for whole body decompression sickness (headache, full body sore, congestion, etc.) and I was wondering if anybody knows how I could prevent it? It takes about 4 hours to get back to the beach Asked by brittany - Wed Sep 28 08:43:45 2011 - Health & Safety - 1 Answers - Comments A. Hmmm... Actually, decompression sickness, or the bends, is caused by the opposite movement - from high pressure to lower pressure. See this for information: Your trip from the mountains to the beach is from lower pressure to higher pressure. This cannot cause decompression sickness. Whatever symptoms you are having, they are not from a pressure difference. Answered by Roger K - Wed Sep 28 12:12:28 2011 From Yahoo Answer Search: "mountains" |
