In the United states, why must one be on either one side or the other?
Q. Why in American Politics, is there such polarization? You have many that believe you are either a conservative or a liberal, left or right, Homo enabler or Homophobic, hippie or hick, Satan worshiper or Jesus freak, Anti-American Terrorist supporter or Blind Anti-constitutional rights Patriot? Why has American politics devolved into just a set of black or white views? Why is there middle gray area allowed? Personally, I am Financially conservative, I hate the idea of credit and only pay in cash. I feel that if you pay taxes you deserve the exact same rights as any other person in the United States. And those rights include eligibility but not the obligation to receive Free Public Education, the right to defend your self, your family, and… [cont.]

A. We as humans have innate needs to feel righteous and to have a sense that we as individuals have access to the truth and knowledge of all that's good and right. Those feelings are only valid if there's an opposing group that we can look down on and despise as unrighteous and ignorant, and maybe evil. So it's natural for a society to divide itself basically into 2 relatively equal-sided camps: Capitalists/communists, Catholics/Protestants, Repubs/Dems, etc.

Is global warming man-made or natural?
Q. I personally believe it is natural because Al gore or who ever discovered global warming originally, just used bad science because records only go back 100 years which doesn't give you a good perspective it also has no facts leading to humans for being the reason for global warming except industry, most can't even prove co2 is causing it because the ocean holds 95% of it not including plants and animals, around 98% of the atmosphere is oxygen and nitrogen or some kind of other gas not to sure. When I was little it was hot but now that I'm older I can't tell a difference I believe the Earth goes through its cycles. Q. Match 1: The Revolution vs Johnny Chaos and E&C Connection This battle was between 2 newly formed teams was sure to turn heads. E&C and Edgeucator started out the match. They locked up and E&C was able to use a bit of extra power to push Edgeucator into the corner. He started hitting Edgeucator with heart pounding chops. After several chops Edgeucator ducked it and started chopping E&C. Then E&C managed to reverse a chop and put Edgeucator back in the corner and once again did chops to the chest. At this point Edgeucator s chest was beat red. Then once more Edgeucator countered it putting E&C in the corner chopping him until his chest was beat red. Fans were cheering E&C and Chaos on. A. Some ideas: MAN-Made hazards a hazard is a forceful natural or man-made event with the potential to adversely affect human life and property, or the environment. Natural hazards are a normal consequence of the internal and external forces that are constantly transforming the earth (e.g., earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadoes, volcanoes, etc.). Man-made hazards arise from deliberate human actions (e.g., war, terrorism, humanitarian emergencies, etc.) that are usually predictable and preventable. They may also arise from the unforeseen or unexpected consequences of human development and technology (e.g., nuclear weapons, industrial accidents, etc.). Asked by Love - Sun Jun 22 14:47:08 2008 - Earth Sciences & Geology - 5 Answers - Comments
A. Collapsible soils-These are soils that compact and collapse after they get wet. Another term for collapsible soils is "hydrocompactive soils". Earthquakes-Most of New Mexico's historical seismicity has been concentrated in the Rio Grande Valley between Socorro and Albuquerque. Karst topography-Although New Mexico has some of the most beautiful caves formed due to having Karst topography, this can also be a hazard due to the likelihood of sinkhole formation. Rock falls-the most common type of mass wasting. Rocks, boulders, pebbles, and dirt loosened by freezing, weathering, and other forces, simply fall downward, until they hit something that stops their descent.

Q. If carbon dioxide is a heavier than air gas, how is it affecting our atmosphere? I'm not trying to pick a fight, but if we're dumping millions of tons of CO2 into the air, wouldn't people in lower altitudes be at risk since CO2 is heavier than the air in the atmosphere? O.K., wind and heat, but according to the article, after an eruption, to avoid the low lying areas because CO2 is heavier than air. I'm no scientist, but I would think that the gasses coming out of a volcano would be much hotter than the emissions coming out of internal combustion engines.

Why is an educational Tv show like The Universe politically bias?
Q. So i was watching a show called the universe that is made by the history channel. Now you would assume that a show that is about science wouldn't have any political bias in it. but it was watching it and they were talking about man made space hazards (like people going insane, and miss calculations with satellites stuff like that) and they were only referencing problems that happened with the soviet space programs you would assume they would reference problems that happened with both NASA and the soviet space program. why would they do that, because i seriously doubt that only russia had problems like that.

Q. Choose any man made or natural disaster which your area may be vulnerable to e.g gas leaks, building collapse, rail' or road accidents, laboratory accidents, health hazards due to toxic waste disposal, earthquakes, Floods, volcanic eruptions etc. 1. A. I amnot sure if such serious topics can be managed by students; it is a very goodthough though. But being practical, how exactly do you plan to look for indications or causes of disasters. Even professionals are unable to do a 100% fool-proof solution. If you wish to do this Isuggest you choose "road accidents and how citizens can help lower it", try to get some inroads into the City traffic department and with their help spread awareness.

A. well for students at my school were not supposed to do anything at all, besides to evac as planned and then go home. Maybe you're asking about high school or primary school students. College students especially community college students are supposed to evac the premises and then go home if medical aid not required. Anyway, the most vulnerable and a scary disaster in my opinion is the unexpected major earthquake. My first one was a 4.0 that really rocked my house last year. Scared the crap out of me, sounded like my house would fall in on me. The role of students during an earthquake is to practice what we learned in public school: hide under the desk away from windows until the shaking has stopped. then calmly evac toward the parking lots. A. I don't mind, actually. I compiled this list of sources a few days ago to elaborate on the hard data that supports anthropogenic global warming for another user who requested it. Here are the remaining sources, if you would like. CO2 concentrations over the past several hundreds of thousands of years (currently at all-time high in reference to this time frame): oceanic acidification (thus oceans are not the attributor of our current CO2 levels): Human Emissions vs. Volcanic Emissions (humans win by two full orders of magnitude): Stratospheric cooling and tropospheric warming - this is due to thermal insulation by greenhouse gases. Thermal radiation form the Earth is trapped within the lower atmosphere due to the enhanced greenhouse effect.… [cont.]

Any opinions on this start to a short story?
Q. The 000 means I haven't come up with a name yet. It has been 30 years since they made contact with us, a somber, uneasy silence had enveloped the crowd before his voice had begun, and now we realize the real reason they have come to us. Seemingly unaware of the speech he was sent to cover, Saul Coleman sat slouched in his chair, only a few nods away from sleep. They came here under the guise of peace, the man continued, and now it has been made evident that this was a fallacy. Saul... Saul... wake up Saul! leave me alone... Saul mumbled, turning his shoulder away from the nuisance. We have to do this report together and you are going to help. It had been 30 years since mankind had found out they were not alone in the universe. The 000 had… [cont.]

A. "The first problem in this case wa" omg cliffhanger! I got really involved in this thing. That was really good! I think you should keep the name as the "000", and maybe have people pronounce it "the Five Zeros". I also think that you should have left out the parts about the history of humans and the 000, or made Saul say it. Short stories should have more characters talking, because that way you can characterize the character and explain the history in the same paragraph. This also gives the opportunity for a biased history, which actually reveals more about the prevailing mood than a third-person-omniscient non-biased history.

Do you realize that you are surrounded by things made from oil?
Q. @@@ The environmentalists are concerned about the use of oil, coal and gas, calling these environmental hazards. They may not realize just how necessary our Resources are. Do they realize that the energy sources they espouse are made up mostly from those that they deem hazards, such as the giant windmill turbines are made up of products from these as well as going into the production of the windmills? Do they know that the very tires in their electric or hybrid cars are made up using 7 quarts of oil as well as made by using the energy produced by these hazards and oil products are used throughout these vehicles? Can the average environmentalist be called a hypocrite for espousing so-called environmentally friendly products? Do they burn… [cont.]

Do you think Michael Crichton is credible on global warming or any scientific subject?
Q. Michael Crichton thinks environmentalism is a religion and man-made global warming is bogus. He also says "I can tell you that DDT is not a carcinogen" and "I can tell you that second hand smoke is not a health hazard to anyone and never was, and the EPA has always known it." Of course, the EPA, National Cancer Institute, American Cancer Society, British Columbia Cancer Agency, etc. disagree. For proof, see my answer here: And of course almost all climate scientists disagree with Crichton on global warming. See the 'Consensus' section here: Do you think science fiction writer Crichton is credible on global warming or secondhand smoke or DDT when he disagrees with the experts (and does not support his opinions)? Good… [cont.]

A. Wow. I never got past the first link with this. When I googled DDT and carginogen, I found the following two sites: This gave me a better feel for where Crichton was coming from. I also found this site: This is from Cornell University, a source I've found to be reliable, last source quoted in references is 1991. In it is the following statements: "The evidence regarding the carcinogenicity of DDT is equivocal." and "The available epidemiological evidence regarding DDT's carcinogenicity in humans, when taken as a whole, does not suggest that DDT and its metabolites are carcinogenic in humans at likely dose levels." So based on that, I'll concede the point to Crichton, as you've presented it. But what he did was to… [cont.]

Man-made disasters are disasters resulting from man-made hazards (threats having an element of human intent, negligence, or error; or involving a failure of a man-made system), as opposed to natural disasters resulting from natural hazards. Man-made hazards or disasters are sometimes referred to as anthropogenic.
