Emergency preparedness Plan?
Q. How do we convince americans to benefit from an emergency preparedness plan against terrorism, hurricanes n tornadoes?

A. All they have to do is go through a hurricane and I promise they will prepare. It's hard to predict a tornado so how do you prepare for that. My town took a direct hit from Hurricane Rita and all local communities had emergency plans but it had been so long since we had been hit that there was a lot to be learned. I can guarantee that the plans for this season were definitely tighter than ever before. It is no fun to try to evacuate with thousands of others and go only 25 miles in 4 hours. Its no fun to have your pets die in your car because they are too hot and there are no supplies along the way because everything was bought out already. It is no fun to have buses of evacuating people being met at the edge of town by the local police and… [cont.]

How do I store water for an emergency preparedness store? Plastic bottles implode.?
Q. I live in Southern California and I have an emergency preparedness store, but I cannot keep water. I understand that water should be rotated like all food products, but there has to be a way of storing it longer than I am currently able to. Thanks to anyone with an answer to this.
Asked by Patti J - Fri Jun 15 20:52:11 2007 - Earth Sciences & Geology - 2 Answers - Comments
A. water stores best in glass jars. plastic tends to break down over time. on the inside, it contaminates the water and on the outside it turns brittle. store the jars in a cool dark place like a basement. if an emergency does occur, always boil the water before use or chlorination tablets or drops of bleach to make drinkable

Phone # and where to get emergency preparedness kits?
Q. Can anyone tell me where to get emergency preparedness kits and Free would be even better. There use to be a 1-800 or 1-888 # annouced over the internet? I have the preparedness guide but they don't tell you where to get the pre-ready kits.

A. Very wise to be thinking about one! I actually have a list somewhere ;) but never actually put one together which included bottled water, a radio, batteries, flashlight just to name a few items. yahoo.com may have a number by searching 'emergency preparedness kit and phone number'. American Red Cross: www.redcross.org and click 'all disaster types' and then 'emergency supplies kit' and one can make one themselves for a much cheaper price.

Emergency preparedness, whats your plan?
Q. Its been three years since The Big blackout, and I was NOT prepared. Bank machines down we had no way to add to what little we had and we were not alone. We emptied our freezer and had a big barbque inviting most of our neighbors kids for a meal of hamburgers and and what ever else was defrosting. For a few days we were equal, equally without. No batteries,no bottled water,no news,no fresh food, no power. I swore we would be better prepared next time. Did you find your self in the same boat or did you think ahead and have a few more comforts? How would you do it differently? This question is concerns any disaster not just blackouts. The connection Emergency preparedness Thanks for the answers so far but I need serious answers if you would be… [cont.]

A. I am prepared to an extent. I could be more prepared. We have spare cash in the house, plus bottled water and we always have tons of snack type food and extra batteries for a back up radio. In case we need to evacuate we already know which items we would grab if only given a few minutes. Of course when the time comes I am sure all the prep work will fly out the window.

What should be included in an Armageddon emergency preparedness kit?
Q. A friend of mine started a SHTF emergency supply kit thread on Facebook. Each day someone generally adds an item or two that should be kept on hand in case a large scale natural disaster puts us in the survival mode. What about Armageddon? What should I stock up on just in case Satan is released from the abyss and Gog and Magog start whoopin' up on us?

A. 1. Plenty of toilet paper. Since Scott and Charmin will no longer be producing. 2. Razor blades. Schick is gone too. 3. Batteries. Ever Ready (no pun intended) bunny will never be hoping along anymore. 4. Water. All utilities will be silent until Jehovah miraculously turns the pumps back on. 5. Hand tools. No power no saws, drills. Most jw janitors will have to brush up on carpentry books so.. 6. Bring along this book How to Build Your Way Out of Total Desolation in six easy lessons. 7. 12 pair of eyeglasses since 1 Hour Eyeglasses is gone forever. 8. At least 12 months of prescription drugs, just in case Jehovah did not spare the warehouses of Squibb & Co, The above list approved by a unanimous vote of all us old codgers in Patterson… [cont.]

Would you appreciate a gift of an emergency preparedness kit?
Q. I am thinking of putting together personalized emergency kits for several couples on my christmas list (a tidy red box with self-charging flashlite, radio, water, food, and a folder for copies of important papers, etc.) Is this a nice gift or would you prefer something more like a book or bath soap? Man. This is not really helping me. Seems like half say, "Yes, great" and half say "No, too impersonal". I'm going to go with something else, I think, and just make a good kit for my own family. Thanks everyone.

Where can I buy emergency preparedness kits for pets other than cats and dogs
Q. I've checked several sites & none had kits for rabbits & ferrets & other rodents
Asked by mocraig@sbcglobal.net - Sun Aug 10 18:48:42 2008 - Other - Pets - 3 Answers - Comments
A. I have never been able to find one either. I don't have traditional companion animals. I made mine. Mine are for reptiles, but you can alter it for small animals, Get some stuff together like: Extra food (timothy hay, dried hay, etc. becaus it has a long expiration date), a collapsable habitat (just in case), I bought some of those air activated heat pads, they last forever and are cheap at walmart), water. What I did was sat down and thought about what i use to take care of them in a week. What they need to survive (water, food, heat), then put all of that in a kit.
